MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee's Mitchell International is working to draw more people to the state's largest airport by launching a $50,000 ad campaign aimed at educating local travelers about their flying options, and where to find them.Many people visit discount travel sites such as Expedia or Travelocity when booking flights, but General Mitchell wants travelers to know there are other options available."We hear people say things like 'oh I wish we still had non-stop flights to Seattle,'" said Pat Rowe, Spokeswoman for General Mitchell International Airport. "They don't realize that we do have non-stop flights to those cities but they don't show up on Orbitz or Expedia or Travelocity.

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- FOX6 News has learned a U.S. Airways flight was in the process of landing at General Mitchell International Airport on Monday evening when a pilot on board identified a routine mechanical issue and declared an emergency as a precaution.A Mitchell Airport spokeswoman says it happened around 7:45 p.m. Monday.An airport spokeswoman says a possible problem was identified on the plane, and the flight landed safely and taxied to the gate.

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A spokesperson with Mitchell International Airport on Wednesday evening, January 1st, said the airport was dealing with a disabled plane.The spokesperson said the incident involved a Delta flight from Minneapolis to Milwaukee.The plane landed safely on the north/south runway just before 5:00 p.m.This was the only runway open at the airport due to the continued snowfall.Once on the ground, the airport spokesperson says the plane had a mechanical issue and was taken to the terminal by shuttle buses.The airport's maintenance crew was working to plow the east/west runway so it could be opened.The airfield reopened minutes before 6:00 p.m.Nan Hemming was one of the travelers watching the clock at Mitchell on Wednesday."It's a mess.

Co. Board to take up proposal to increase parking fees at airport

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Prices for flights are on the rise, and now, parking at Mitchell International Airport could soon cost a little more as well.A Milwaukee County Board Committee approved a proposal that would increase daily parking costs by 50 cents at all of its garages and lots.The increase is said to help make up lost revenue at the airport, since there are fewer people flying.The increase would result in a $2.6 million boost annually.However, one County supervisor believes an extra 50 cents is an inconvenience."It's not a chicken feed thing as far as a $2.6 million, you know, revenue enhancer, but let's just keep it simple and go with dollars," County Supervisor Mark Borkowski said.The proposal now moves on to the full County Board.

Plane from Air Refueling Wing forced to land at Mitchell

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A Mitchell International Airport spokesperson confirmed to FOX6 News that a disabled plane landed at the airport Tuesday evening, May 28th.The airport spokesman said a KC-135 from the 128th Air Refueling Wing landed at the airport just before 7:30 p.m.The plane was forced to land due to a mechanical issue with one of its engines.No injuries were reported, and the plane was able to taxi back to the hangar under its own power.
