Operation Trick or Treat: Officers to conduct "knock and talks" at homes of sex offenders

MILWAUKEE CO. (WITI) -- They're teaming up for Operation Trick or Treat -- an effort to ensure the safety of children as they go door-to-door through neighborhoods collecting Halloween treats.On Sunday, October 26th, from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., law enforcement teams (including the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office Apprehension Unit and Criminal Investigative Unit, Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) Probation and Parole, US Marshal’s Service and police departments in Milwaukee, West Allis, and West Milwaukee) will conduct “Knock and Talks” at residences of known sex offenders and serve warrants on sex offenders who have not registered with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry.During the “Knock and Talks,” officers will enforce and confirm that sexual predators are in compliance with the Halloween guidelines set forth by the DOC.

Minor crash slows traffic a bit on I-43/I-94 southbound at Howard Avenue

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office says a crash on I-43/I-94 southbound at Howard Avenue slowed traffic for a bit on Tuesday evening, October 14th.It happened shortly before 7:00 p.m.Sheriff's officials say it was a minor crash, and the vehicles were on the right shoulder.No lanes of traffic were blocked, but we're told the crash did cause some slowdowns.Sheriff's officials say one person was taken to Froedtert Hospital for a laceration to the face.The crash scene was clearing around 7:45 p.m.

Protocol now in place to screen for Ebola virus at Milwaukee County Jail

MILWAUKEE CO. (WITI) -- The Milwaukee County Jail now has in place a protocol to screen for the Ebola virus.The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said in a news release, "The screening is a proactive way to reduce the likelihood of the Ebola virus disease entering the jail, and in the event that it did, to prevent its spread."Sheriff David Clarke added, "Routine screening occurs for every inmate for diseases like TB and Hepatitis C.

Tire flies off car on I-43, jumps median and plows into SUV's windshield

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A driver had to be taken to the hospital following an incident involving a tire that occurred on I-43 on Tuesday afternoon, October 7th.Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials tell FOX6 News just before 1:00 p.m., a vehicle headed southbound on I-43 lost a tire, which went over the median and through a northbound SUV's windshield.

Sheriff's officials seeking homicide charge against man accused of causing fatal crash on Highway 45

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office says it is seeking homicide charges against a driver accused of causing a fatal crash that shut down a portion of Highway 45 for more than five hours on Tuesday, September 30th.It happened just before 2:30, on Highway 45 southbound near Watertown Plank Road/Mayfair Road.The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office says the crash involved two vehicles -- and one of those vehicles, a pickup truck, rolled over as a result of the crash.Sheriff's officials say the pickup truck's driver, 54-year-old Dennis Meyer of Milwaukee was ejected from the pickup truck.

Fatal wreck that shut down all lanes of US 45 SB cleared, lanes reopen to traffic

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office has confirmed one person was killed in a two-vehicle crash that shut down all lanes of US 45 southbound for hours on Tuesday, September 30th.It happened just before 2:30 on US 45 SB near North Avenue."It was just a loud screech and a bang," Robert Porter said.A stretch of US 45 SB was shut down for five-and-a-half hours -- reopening just before 7:45 p.m. Tuesday."I can see how the accident on the highway can cause a lot of trouble," Jaxs Goldsmith said.The Sheriff's Office tells FOX6 News the individual killed in the crash was the male driver of a vehicle that rolled over.

Sheriff's officials: Two alleged drunken drivers collide; innocent victims in third vehicle injured

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials say a stretch of I-94 had to be shut down on Sunday morning, September 21st -- after two drivers, believed to be drunk, crashed into one another, and then crashed into a third vehicle.It happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. on I-94 westbound at North 25th Street.Sheriff's officials say the three vehicles were across lanes of traffic -- requiring a closure of the roadway that lasted for about 35 minutes.Sheriff's officials say a white Range Rover being operated by 34-year-old Michael Dodson of Milwaukee struck a white Mercedes, being driven by 35-year-old Arthur Flowers of Menomonee Falls.

Bomb Squad called out to West Allis CVS store for suspicious suitcase

WEST ALLIS (WITI) -- Milwaukee County's Bomb Squad was called out to S. 76th and Oklahoma on Thursday evening, September 11th to investigate a suitcase discovered near a CVS store.Law enforcement officials blocked off the parking lot next to the CVS store, and appeared to be focusing on a blue/gray suitcase.The suitcase was removed from the scene by law enforcement officials.West Allis police tell FOX6 News it has been determined that the suitcase wasn't dangerous.No one was injured.

BUSTED: Holiday weekend drunken driving patrols net 20 arrests

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Twenty drunken drivers -- seven of them repeat offenders were arrested this holiday weekend, as the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office ramped up patrols for Labor Day weekend beginning Friday, August 29th through Tuesday, September 2nd.During this weekend's initiative, Sheriff's deputies took part in 232 traffic stops -- and a total of 221 citations were issued.There were no fatal crashes, but Sheriff's deputies did respond to five crashes with injuries.
