Numerous crashes on area freeways Monday night as officials report icy conditions

MILWAUKEE/WAUKESHA COUNTIES (WITI) -- Law enforcement officials responded to numerous crashes throughout the freeway system on Monday night, April 14th.Based on calls made by FOX6 News to area Sheriff's officials, it seems the majority of the incidents occurred in Milwaukee and the eastern part of Waukesha County.Racine and Ozaukee county officials reported some spinouts and vehicles going off the road -- but no major accidents.

Sheriff's officials seek information on fleeing vehicle

MILWAUKEE CO. (WITI) -- The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help to identify a vehicle deputies were pursuing late Tuesday, March 25th.Around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, a Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a violator he suspected of drunken driving.

MILWAUKEE (WITI) – The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office has announced the arrest of an individual whom they say confessed to stealing personal information from the Milwaukee County Election Commission Office.Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke ordered his Criminal Investigation Division to do an investigation in February after receiving a complaint of stolen identities and fraudulent credit card applications from employees at the Milwaukee County Election Commission Office.Detectives identified a suspect through their investigation.Sheriff’s detectives arrested the suspect on Thursday, March 20th, and she confessed to stealing personal information from the employees’ purses and then applying for credit cards in their names.She subsequently made fraudulent online purchases with the cards, according to the Sheriff's Office.The subject was booked on two felony counts of Unauthorized use of an individual’s personal identifying information or documents, and one misdemeanor count of Theft.The Class H felony counts each carry a penalty of up to six years in prison.

DA rules County employee accused of theft won't face charges

MILWAUKEE (WITI) – Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials say a County employee has confessed to stealing from the Sheriff's Office.According to the Sheriff's Office, in December of 2013, the Sheriff's Office received notification that a process unit's cash register was showing shortages from money taken in.Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke ordered detectives to investigate.The investigation pointed to 38-year-old Damond Watts of Milwaukee, who confessed to stealing approximately $1,000 over a period of time.Watts was employed by Milwaukee County since August 2012.The Sheriff's Office sought misdemeanor charges of theft with the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.Last week, Assistant District Attorney Michael Lonski did not issue a criminal charge and is recommending that it be handled as a deferred prosecution case.A deferred prosecution means, for example, that there is a stipulation that if Watt engages in no further criminal conduct, no charge will be issued."A deferred prosecution normalizes criminal behavior and removes accountability.

Sheriff's deputy's squad struck Saturday on I-94 near Ryan

Motorist rear-ends squad at crash scene, deputy hurt

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputy was hurt after a motorist rear-ended his squad on Monday, February 17th.The deputy was on the scene of another crash -- blocking off the right lane of traffic to protect those in the wreck.

Deputy struck by driver, injured for second time this winter

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputy was injured Thursday, February 13th after being struck by a vehicle while assisting a motorist on the road -- marking the second time this particular deputy has been hit this winter.While responding to a rollover crash on Highway 145, a driver lost control and hit another vehicle before crashing into a fire truck and the deputy's squad car.
