Lucia Hernandez-Alvarez, accused of killing her own 2 children, found dead in Kenosha County Jail

KENOSHA COUNTY -- Officials with the Racine County Sheriff's Office are investigating the death of an inmate who died Wednesday morning, November 2nd at the Kenosha County Jail Pre-Trial Facility -- and FOX6 News has confirmed that death involved an inmate accused of killing her own two children.According to the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department, the inmate was found by jail staff shortly before 7:00 a.m. Wednesday not breathing, with no pulse in their bed.Correctional officers, jail medical staff, and the Kenosha Fire Department responded and determined that the inmate was deceased.Officials with the Racine County Sheriff's Office say the inmate is Lucia Hernandez-Alvarez -- accused of killing her own children on September 11th, 2015.Racine County Sheriff's officials say preliminary autopsy results indicate Hernandez-Alvarez committed suicide.Hernandez-Alvarez had a court date scheduled for November 4th -- a status conference.

Deputies use GPS coordinates to find lost 64-year-old hunter in Burlington

BURLINGTON -- Officials with the Racine County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday evening, November 2nd used GPS coordinates to locate a 64-year-old hunter lost in the Town of Burlington.The call for this incident came in just after 5:00 p.m.Sheriff's officials say the hunter became lost on public land at the Hoosier Creek Wildlife Area.

Motorcyclist killed in crash in Racine County after striking mailbox, tree

TOWN OF RAYMOND -- Officials with the Racine County Sheriff's Office are investigating after a fatal motorcycle crash Tuesday night, November 1st in the Town of Raymond.It happened shortly after 9:00 p.m. in the 3600 block of 108th St in the in the Town of Raymond.A 911 caller advised that a motorcycle appeared to have struck a mailbox and tree -- and the operator did not appear to be breathing after the crash.Deputies arriving on scene confirmed the crash involved the single motorcycle, and the motorcyclist was pronounced dead.According to Racine County Sheriff's officials, based on evidence at the scene, the accident appeared to have happened hours prior to the 911 call reporting the accident.The caller dialed 911 after coming upon the crash.The cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time, but speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.

Waterford man accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting "vulnerable" 14-year-old girl sentenced to prison

RACINE COUNTY -- A Waterford man, accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a "vulnerable" 14-year-old girl back in 2014 has been sentenced in the case against him.76-year-old James Barnak on October 17th pleaded guilty to a felony charge of second degree sexual assault of a child.In court on Tuesday, November 1st, Barnak was sentenced to serve 12 years in prison, and three years extended supervision.That's to be served concurrently with a sentence handed down for Barnak in a case out of Walworth County, filed in November of 2014.

Jailed for armed robbery, but now could face "battery to a corrections officer" charge

RACINE COUNTY -- He was already in jail for armed robbery charges, now Deonte Anderson faces a possible charge of "battery to a corrections officer."Officials with the Racine County Sheriff's Office say late on Monday, October 17th, Anderson violently attacked a Racine County Jail Corrections Officer in the intake area of the jail.

Racine County Sheriff's deputy saves the life of woman choking in Union Grove

RACINE -- Official with the Racine County Sheriff's Office tell FOX6 News a deputy was able to save a woman's life using the Heimlich maneuver on Wednesday, October 12th.The deputy was in the area near 11th and Vine when a choking incident was called in.It was reported that a 53-year-old woman's lips were turning blue, and food was coming out of her nose when the deputy arrived.The woman refused transport to a hospital after the deputy successfully used the Heimlich maneuver on her.  

Police: 20-year-old Mount Pleasant man struck by vehicle, killed on State Highway 32

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Mount Pleasant police say a 20-year-old man from Mount Pleasant was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash that happened on State Highway 32, north of Chicory Road Sunday morning, October 9th.Police say the man was struck by a vehicle around 4:30 a.m.The man was found in the northbound lanes of State Highway 32 with severe trauma to his head and body from impact with the northbound vehicle -- which remained at the scene.Police say the driver of the vehicle wasn't hurt.The 20-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.A preliminary investigation has revealed the vehicle was headed northbound on State Highway 32 in the right lane of the divided four-lane highway -- approximately three-tenths of a mile north of Chicory Road.Police say the area does not have street lighting, and is a darkened area of the roadway.The pedestrian was in the right traffic lane when he was struck by the vehicle.Police say the vehicle was being driven by a 27-year-old woman from Racine, who is cooperating with this investigation.The crash remains under investigation.

Caught on camera: Police need help to identify attempted armed robbery suspects

TOWN OF NORWAY -- The Racine County Sheriff's Office is looking for your help to identify a couple of women who attempted to rob BP gas station in the Town of Norway on Thursday evening, September 29th.Deputies were dispatched to a gas station near Loomis Road and Long Lake Road around 7:40 p.m. for an attempted robbery call.

Racine Co. Sheriff: 3 taken into custody after incident in Town of Dover

RACINE COUNTY -- A Racine County Sheriff's Deputy on patrol early Sunday, September 18th arrested three people after an incident at the Dover Food Mart in the Town of Dover.Officials say around 2:45 a.m., the deputy noticed a truck parked in an unusual spot at the food mart.

YORKVILLE -- The Racine County Sheriff's Office said a second person has now died in the wake of a crash that happened in the Town of Yorkville on Tuesday, August 30th.Officials say 85-year-old Earl Goebel passed away at Froedtert Hospital on Friday, September 2nd.
