MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Terry Slaybaugh is the new airport director for Mitchell International Airport -- and he was officially introduced on Wednesday, February 18th.Prior to his arrival in Milwaukee, Slaybaugh was running the airport in Dayton, Ohio where he led an aggressive airport modernization capital program and helped the airport maintain fiscal stability during a turbulent time in the airline industry.As he takes over at Mitchell International Airport, Slaybaugh says his biggest challenge is adding more direct flights, and he says he needs help from local businesses."For us to be successful in getting some of the tougher markets that people want to see direct service to out of Milwaukee, I'm going to need the business community with me telling me what they're doing in those markets and why it's important to them," Slaybaugh said.Slaybaugh was hired after an extensive nationwide search and interview process, he replaces Barry Bateman who retired in April.“In the almost four years I've been in office, I have been directly involved with hiring decisions for leadership in many departments because I know the most important factor in any organization's success is its leadership.

Delta flight headed to Atlanta forced to return to Mitchell Airport after experiencing mechanical issue

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A Delta flight had to return to General Mitchell International Airport Tuesday afternoon, February 3rd after experiencing a mechanical issue during takeoff, a Delta Air Lines spokeswoman tells FOX6 News.Delta Flight 1052 was headed to Atlanta from Milwaukee.The mechanical issue involved one of the aircraft's two engines.The Delta Airlines spokeswoman says the flight crew followed procedures and returned the Boeing MD-88 aircraft to Milwaukee.

Aircraft makes emergency landing at Mitchell Airport after experiencing possible mechanical issue

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A KC-135 aircraft from the 128th Air Refueling Wing made an emergency landing at General Mitchell International Airport Tuesday evening, January 27th after experiencing a possible mechanical issue.The plane landed safely shortly before 9:00 p.m., and taxied back to the 128th Air Refueling Wing without a problem.It is unclear how many people were on board the plane.No one was injured.

ATLANTA (AP) — An FBI agent says law officers are continuing to pursue a suspect after someone made bomb threats targeting two jets bound for Atlanta, prompting F-16 fighter jets to escort the planes.Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Stephen Emmett told The Associated Press on Sunday, January 25th the agency is continuing to pursue leads in an effort to locate the individual responsible for the threats.No bombs were found in searches of both planes after they landed safely in Atlanta on Saturday.Airport officials say the threats targeted Southwest Airlines Flight 2492, which arrived at Atlanta from Milwaukee, and Delta Air Lines Flight 1156, which arrived from Portland, Oregon.Preston Schlachter, a spokesman for the North American Aerospace Defense Command, said the threats were posted on the social media network Twitter.Related stories:
