Worker rescued from transmission tower in Oak Creek after suffering symptoms of heat stroke

OAK CREEK -- Oak Creek fire officials say a maintenance worker, working on a transmission tower for Channel 49 had to be rescued on Tuesday evening, September 1st.It happened around 7:00 p.m.We're told the worker was working 300 feet above ground when that worker began experiencing symptoms of heat stroke and heat exhaustion.A fellow worker who was above (at about 500 feet) noticed this, and observed the worker was incoherent, and going in and out of consciousness.The worker at 500 feet was able to lower himself down, and he managed to bring the sick worker down off the transmission tower.

#RisingforCharleston: Oak Creek one of eight cities to host gathering to honor shooting victims

OAK CREEK -- A gathering was held on this Sunday, June 28th at the Salvation Army Chapel in Oak Creek to honor the nine people who lost their lives in the mass shooting at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina -- and to talk about how people of faith and concerned citizens are uniting to turn grief into action -- action that organizers believe will ultimately help reduce gun violence in America.This gathering was organized by "Everytown for Gun Safety" and "Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America."The event at the Salvation Army Chapel in Oak Creek was part of a larger effort titled #RisingforCharleston, in which people of faith and communities around the country honored those who were killed at Emanuel AME — and the 88 people who die from gun violence every day and hundreds of others injured by gun violence every day in America.The shooting at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston occurred on the evening of June 17th.

Police: No threat to safety of students after rumors something could happen at Oak Creek H.S.

OAK CREEK -- Oak Creek police say they have been made aware of possible rumors of threats about a possible incident that may occur on Friday, June 5th at Oak Creek High School.Police say they take any threat to the safety of Oak Creek's schools very seriously.These rumors, that originated on social media and within the school were investigated, and police have determined there is no threat to the safety of students.Because juveniles are involved in this investigation, no further information will be released.There are no plans to cancel school on Friday.Monitor FOX6 News and FOX6Now.com for updates on this story.

Approved: Oak Creek's Drexel Town Square project set to expand

OAK CREEK (WITI) -- Oak Creek's Drexel Town Square project is set to expand.On Tuesday, April 28th, the Oak Creek Planning Commission approved expanding an apartment community and adding a pet store.Sixty-four more apartments will be built between S. 13th Street and I-94 -- north of Rawson Avenue.Also approved was a new retail building that would stand at the northern edge of the project, which would include an unnamed pet store.

Oak Creek Fire Department battles semi trailer fire near 20th and Ryan Road

OAK CREEK (WITI) -- Oak Creek firefighters battled a semi trailer fire on West Ryan Road (Highway 100,)  and 20th Street in Oak Creek Saturday morning.Authorities say there was a brake and tire issue with the semi truck.The Oak Creek Fire Department posted pictures of the trailer damage on their Facebook page after the fire was extinguished.The contents of the semi trailer look to be some sort of canned beverage, but it is not confirmed what was actually inside.As of 4 p.m., crews are still on the scene.FOX6 News will continue to monitor this incident and will update this story as more information is available.
