Sheriff's deputies respond to Mitchell Interchange for jackknifed semi amid rainfall

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials say a semi jackknifed in the Mitchell Interchange as rain fell on Tuesday evening, November 17th.It happened shortly before 6:00 p.m.The semi ended up blocking all three lanes, and another car spun out trying to avoid the jackknifed semi.The cleanup process took nearly two hours.

Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office investigating death of 44-year-old man in MacArthur Square

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials are investigating the death of a man that occurred in MacArthur Square in downtown Milwaukee.MCSO officials were advised of an unresponsive, 44-year-old white man in MacArthur Square on Sunday, November 8th, shortly before 11:00 a.m.Deputies, along with the Milwaukee Fire Department responded to the scene.The man was pronounced dead shortly after the arrival of MFD.The incident is being investigated by MCSO detectives.The deceased has not been identified.No further details have yet been released.Monitor FOX6 News and FOX6Now.com for updates on this developing story.

Single-vehicle crash closes ramp from US 45 SB to I-94 EB a bit ahead of planned closure time

WAUWATOSA -- The ramp from US 45 SB to I-94 EB had to be shut down on Thursday evening, November 5th as a result of a crash.Officials with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office tell FOX6 News the crash involved one vehicle, and it happened around 5:30 p.m.We're told the vehicle crashed into an attenuator barrel (a yellow barrel that are located in the gore area of the highway -- which is the middle space created when two lanes split).Two people were inside the vehicle, and one complained of shoulder pain, but neither had to be taken to the hospital.The ramp from US 45 SB to I-94 EB was shut down due to the responding emergency crews and a construction crew that needed to clean up sand on the roadway after the crash.Because there was a previously scheduled shutdown of that ramp beginning at 9:00 p.m. Thursday, the decision was made to keep the ramp closed following the crash.The ramp will remain closed until 5:00 a.m. Friday.The cause of this crash is under investigation.

Sheriff's Office: Eight sex offenders arrested for violations during "Operation Trick-or-Treat"

MILWAUKEE -- Officials with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is announcing the results of the "Operation Trick-or-Treat" initiative Saturday, October 31st -- during which checks were performed to ensure sex offenders complied with Department of Corrections guidelines that prohibit interaction with trick-or-treaters.The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office partnered with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) Probation and Parole, and police departments in Milwaukee and West Allis, to ensure that sex offenders in Milwaukee County complied with the DOC guidelines.In addition to the Saturday initiative, sheriff’s deputies and the US Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force officials also conducted warrant sweeps the previous week, arresting 26 subjects wanted for probation violations.During trick-or-treat hours on Saturday, deputies and state DOC Probation and Parole conducted checks on 174 registered sex offenders.

MILWAUKEE -- 22-year-old Tory Galipo of Franklin faces a charge of second-degree recklessly endangering safety (RES) after driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 43 just north of the Marquette Interchange on Friday, October 30th.Deputies from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office were dispatched around 5 a.m. after one caller reported having to veer out of a lane of traffic to avoid being struck by Galipo.Galipo also called 911 to report that she had crashed, telling deputies at the scene that she had consumed a half bottle of vodka.

52-year-old Racine man arrested for DUI, accused of driving his Jaguar into deputy's squad

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials say a 52-year-old Racine man was arrested after crashing his vehicle into a deputy's squad on I-43 early Thursday morning, October 22nd.It happened around 12:30 a.m.Sheriff's officials say the deputy was inside his squad on I-43 southbound near National Avenue, with his emergency lights and large, overhead blinking arrow activated.The 52-year-old driver of the striking vehicle, a 2013 Jaguar, struck the rear of the deputy's squad as the deputy was closing the right lane for road construction crews.Sheriff's officials say a roadway behind the squad was also marked with an amber arrow board and orange construction signs indicating there were closures ahead.Following the crash, the deputy had to be taken to the hospital for treatment after suffering neck and back pain.

Sheriff's Office: Charges could come soon against five teens after attempted carjacking & pursuit

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials say charges could be filed soon against five teenagers accused in an attempted carjacking and pursuit that ended when the suspect vehicle became wedged between a parked vehicle and an oncoming school bus last Thursday, September 24th.Around 4:30 p.m., a deputy was flagged down by a woman after a group of teenagers pointed a gun at her and attempted to steal her vehicle near 16th and Scott.The deputy was patrolling as part of a stolen auto interdiction unit, in cooperation with a request from Milwaukee Alderman Bob Donovan, Sheriff's officials say.The deputy notified Milwaukee police, and deputies were joined by MPD officers as the seven-mile pursuit began.
