Opening its doors: Greater New Birth Church offering up an escape from the bitter cold

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- FOX6 News has learned the Greater New Birth Church & Christian Complex on Silver Spring Drive in Milwaukee will open its doors on nights when temperatures dip to 10 degrees or below.Operating hours for this warming shelter are 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m.The church is located at: 8237 West Silver Spring Drive in Milwaukee.Folks must arrive by midnight to gain entry to the church.There will be space available to sleep and a light meal will be offered.A Wind Chill Advisory was in effect for all of southeastern Wisconsin through noon on Thursday, February 19th.

DEVELOPING: Medical Examiner's Office investigating possible cold-weather-related death

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office says it is investigating a death that may be related to the cold.The Medical Examiner says a 40-year-old woman was found on the sidewalk in the 3500 block of West Clarke Street in Milwaukee.That woman had a core body temperature of 80 degrees.An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, February 19th.The woman was found on a day when a Wind Chill Advisory was in effect for all of southeastern Wisconsin as wind chills were forecast to dip to -20 to -30.
