Suspect sought: Racine sheriff's officials investigate robbery & attempted robbery at libraries

RACINE -- The Racine County Sheriff’s Office responded to a robbery in the Village of Rochester (at the Rochester Public Library) and an attempted robbery in the Village of Waterford (at the Waterford Public Library) on Thursday, August 6th.The robbery in the Village of Rochester occurred at approximately 11:43 a.m. The attempted robbery in the Village of Waterford occurred at approximately 11:56 a.m .No one was injured in either incident.A neighborhood notification “Code Red” was sent to residents in the area -- indicating that law enforcement officials are actively searching for the suspect in both villages at this time.The suspect is described as a male, either white or Hispanic, in his late teens to early 20s, standing approximatley 5'10" tall and weighing 175 to 200 pounds.

All lanes now clear on I-94 SB near Highway KR in Racine after traffic stop led to closure

RACINE COUNTY -- A traffic alert on Tuesday evening, July 14th -- Officials with the Racine County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on two vehicles on I-94 -- just south of Highway KR.We're told these vehicles that were stopped may have been involved in some sort of crime in the Milwaukee area.ALL lanes of southbound I-94 at KR were closed initially -- but all lanes have reopened.We're told there were some people taken into custody -- but it's unclear how many at this point.Monitor FOX6 News and FOX6Now.com for updates on this developing story.

61-year-old South Milwaukee pilot injured when helicopter crashed in Town of Norway

TOWN OF NORWAY -- Racine County Sheriff's officials say a 61-year-old South Milwaukee man was injured when the helicopter he was piloting crashed on Sunday morning, July 12th.It happened shortly before 8:30 a.m. at the Guntly Airport -- in the 22000 block of West County Highway G in the Town of Norway.Sheriff's officials say the first arriving deputy found the pilot was conscious and alert -- but he had sustained a laceration on the back of his head.

Brookfield man accused of driving drunk, did not realize his truck struck median

RACINE COUNTY -- 56-year-old Michael Miller of Brookfield faces his sixth drunk driving charge -- after an incident that happened in Racine County late on Monday, June 29th.According to the criminal complaint, a deputy with the Racine County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a report of a reckless driver on I-94 in the Town of Yorkville just before midnight.

Busted: Woman arrested as search warrant executed; 3,000 pills, $2,500K seized

RACINE COUNTY -- Racine County Sheriff's officials say a repeat drug offender was arrested on Tuesday morning, July 9th as agents from the Racine County Sheriff's Office's Metro Drug Unit served a search warrant.As agents were serving the search warrant in the 2000 block of Blake Avenue in Racine, an investigation revealed that the suspect was involved in the sale of prescription medications.A search of the home by Metro Drug Unit agents produced more than 3,000 pills -- to include narcotics.Most of the medications were packaged for resale in small baggies.The street value of the medications hasn't yet been determined.Officials also seized just over $2,500 in United States currency.

One killed in crash involving driver who fell asleep, truck pulling trailer engulfed in flames

KANSASVILLE (WITI) -- Racine County Sheriff's officials say one person was killed in a crash that led to a truck fire in the Town of Kansasville.It happened on Sunday, May 24th on State Highway 75, just south of County Highway A.A 911 caller reported a person was trapped inside a truck that was on fire.When deputies responded to the scene, they found the truck fully engulfed.

Racine Co. Sheriff's Office: 69-year-old man suffers self-inflicted gunshot wound in hunting accident

BURLINGTON (WITI) -- Racine County Sheriff's officials say a man suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his foot as a result of a hunting accident.On Wednesday, April 29th, shortly before 4:00 p.m., the Racine County Communications Center was advised there was a patient at the Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the foot.Racine County Sheriff’s deputies, investigators and DNR wardens responded to investigate.The preliminary investigation has shown the injury was a result of a hunting accident.The victim is a 69-year-old man from the Town of Dover.

Sheriff's Office: 5 arrested, drugs, firearms, stolen items recovered as search warrants executed in Racine

RACINE COUNTY (WITI) -- Racine County Sheriff's officials on Thursday, April 23rd arrested five people as they executed several search warrants in the city of Racine.In addition to the arrests, the search warrant execution led authorities to recover stolen items, illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia and firearms.Additionally, at one of the homes, officials found young children, and due to the presence of loaded firearms and illegal drugs, the Racine County Human Services Department assisted with the care of the children.The ages of the five people arrested are 34, 33, 26, 21 and 18.FOX6 News is not identifying these individuals because they haven't been criminally charged.Monitor FOX6 News and FOX6Now.com for updates on this ongoing investigation.

Man, woman arrested, children in protective custody after heroin, marijuana found in Racine home

RACINE COUNTY (WITI) -- Racine County Sheriff's officials say two people were arrested as a search warrant was executed at a home on 6th Street early Friday, March 20th.Just before 5:30 a.m., the Racine County Sheriff's Office's SWAT Team, agents from the Racine County Metro Drug Unit and investigators from the Racine Police Department's Special Investigative Unit executed a search warrant in the 700 block of 6th Street.These investigators had information to suggest that a 31-year-old man and his 26-year-old girlfriend were involved in the sale of heroin.During their search, investigators found heroin, marijuana and a digital scale in the home.Two young children were taken into temporary protective custody by the Racine County Human Services Department.The man and woman were taken into custody on the following charges:

Suspect in custody after pursuit in Racine County reaches speeds of 100 m.p.h.

RACINE COUNTY (WITI) -- An hours-long search has landed one man in custody -- after he led law enforcement on a car chase that reached more than 100 m.p.h early Wednesday morning, March 18th.According to the Racine County Sheriff's Office, deputies attempted to stop a vehicle heading eastbound on 5 Mile Road in the Town of Raymond just before 1 a.m. for numerous traffic violations."The deputy attempted to stop that vehicle and the vehicle failed to stop and speeds reached over 100 miles per hour," said Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling.That set off a chase that lasted roughly six minutes.
